What Is A Japanese Beetle?

Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica) was first discovered in southern New Jersey in 1916. Since then, Japanese beetles have spread to every state east of the Mississippi River, except Florida. Japanese beetle adults are slightly less than 1/2 inch long, and are shiny, metallic green with coppery-brown wing covers.

The adult beetles are what we are concerned about in the arboricultural field, as they feed on foliage, and are a major pest of over 350 species of plants. Norway and Japanese maple, birch, crabapple, plum, rose, mountain ash, and linden are commonly attacked.

• We will schedule a time for our certified arborists to stop in and inspect your tree(s).

• When you give us the okay, we will schedule a time to complete the work.
• Final step: You are satisfied and your trees are pest free.

As with any pest, the best time to start preparing your defenses is before the plant or tree is attacked. We do this by providing a full-spectrum fertilizer and soil builder that’s a natural and organic way to build the plant’s natural defenses. If our WAA certified arborist does find an active infestation, we would then deploy our effective and therapeutic chemical treatments.
